Sand Dollar Shores a Pet Friendly Ocean Condo

We have dozens of condo communities here in the Treasure Coast and most of them are located on beautiful Hutchinson Island.  Hutchinson Island is a barrier island that spans more than 50 miles over both Martin and St. Lucie Counties and this island has an ample supply of condos.

Here in Florida many of our buyers are looking for a condo as a second or retirement home, so I get to speak to hundreds of people investigating these type of properties. And of course, I get all kinds of questions, but the one question I field the most is about the acceptance of pets. Yes, many people have pets and want to know if a condo is the right choice, as most condo communities are not so pet friendly.

As a rule, I would say 30% do not allow any pets and the ones that do, allow only 1 “small” pet weighing 20 lbs or less.  There are a few exceptions, but this is the primary pet policies for most condo communities. So, for people who have large pets, this is a big problem and why some will forgo a condo purchase.

Now, here in the Treasure Coast, we have a few communities that will accommodate the larger pets and one of these communities is Sand Dollar Shores in Jensen Beach.

Sand Dollar Shores is a gated beach front community with 5 ocean front buildings and this community does not limit the weight on pets. There is a 1 pet limit, but your dog could be a hefty 150 lbs. and there would be no problem, other than the fact that you need to pick up after that 150 lb. dog. “I would not want that job”.

This community does have an ample number of units and the amenities to support 5 buildings. They have 2 pools, an exercise room, tennis courts, grill area and clubhouse for entertaining. The condo fees are also very reasonable for Jensen Beach island living. As of August 2017, the fees were $411 per month which is about $100 less than most places on the beach.

These are 2-bedroom units built in the 1980’s and like most condos on the beach the living square footage is about 1100 SqFt.  The buildings are well maintained and the grounds are nicely manicured. There is also an on-sight property manager Monday through Friday to take care of any maintenance requests you may have.
